There are some things in life that are just given to you, without any choice of yours. Your family and everything that comes with it. Which means the shape of your ears, the texture of your hair, your skin colour, even how much body hair you have. You get where I’m going with this... but just to be clear, none of the above or otherwise is wrong. It’s all part of being human. And to be a proper feminist here is where I state, you are beautiful ‘Just the way you are’.
Now, that that’s out of the way let’s move on.
Another little thing our family sometime hands down to us is smelliness. If you’re one of the lucky ones who don’t have this problem, you are welcome to stop here. BUT for those of you who are ‘Normal human beings’ do read on. I’ll share with you a few simple secrets I’ve just happened to stumble upon and hopefully it’ll help you out too. And PS: no judging allowed.
Let’s start with the assumption that you are a clean person, you bathe regularly, are hygienic & use a decent deo / perfume. But no matter what you do, irrespective of what type of weather your city has, you end up smelling about halfway through the day.
I will be honest here, I have struggled with this for YEARS. Being a soap maker, this isn’t really the best issue to have. And it’s not like my soaps don’t work coz that would be just weird, it’s because I kinda inherited this. My husband can go for days without showering and still will not stink. Just to clarify, he like the rest of us usually get lazy on weekends & holidays. Me on the other hand, by the end of the day I need to get under the shower for my own sanity. I tried everything, Antiperspirants, strong deos or perfumes even the so-called natural remedies like baking soda (white BTY feels HORRIBLE) I have even experimented in making my own concoctions. Some of them work for a while, maybe even a few days but then, they eventually have failed. (I will continue to work on a toxin-free deodorant and will update when I’ve succeeded. If it works on me, it will work on you.
I sort of stumbled on the answer by accident. I am the kind of person who likes to create things. Not just in soaps but I also love baking, cooking, I’ve even tried sourdough bread (still need to work on that last one). But then I tried making my own APPLE CIDER VINEGAR! My husband and I both love ACV, and people have been telling me to have this in the mornings to lose weight. (I’m a fatty you see) but I figured, if I can buy it, I can make it. So I did. After a few failed attempts and weeks of trying. Success!

You’re probably wondering what ACV has to do with stinky pits or smelly feet. Well, here it is. To put it simply, body odour is because of bad bacteria. Bacteria from the environment & and an unhealthy gut (I don’t know the exact term for it) while ACV didn’t help me lose the weight it helped with a lot of other things. My skin is clearer, I don’t struggle with acidity anymore, I poop better 🙈 and last but not least, I smell better. I usually have 2 tablespoons of homemade ACV in warm water before bed. ACV also helps with the stomachs overall PH levels and the additional benefit - stink freeness!
It’s been about 3 months now, and I’ve finally run out of my first batch. I personally don’t like the store-bought ones but if you like you can purchase any brand that says it is with ‘mother’. Search for that labelling when purchasing. I know, weird term, but that basically means it’s not refined or processed and still has its natural good bacteria & yeast in it. This helps in improving gut health-boosting immunity and overall well-being.
Trust me. Try it. It’s available at almost any retail store. Even Big Basket. And enjoy. Here’s to a stink-free life people!! I’m no expert, all I know is if it worked for me it might work for you too.
